Since 1988, Ken and Debbie Norris have dedicated their lives to planting churches and reaching the Navajo Nation with the Gospel of Jesus Christ under the Baptist Bible Fellowship International (BBFI) Mission Office. Answering God’s call, they stepped into this unique mission field with a passion to see lives transformed and Christ exalted among the Navajo people.

Their ministry is rooted in both the timeless truth of Scripture and a deep love for Navajo culture. By building relationships, learning from the people, and serving with humility, Ken and Debbie have sought to share Christ in ways that embrace the rich heritage while pointing hearts toward eternal hope.

Over the years, they have witnessed God’s hand at work, souls saved, churches established, and communities strengthened. What began as a step of faith has grown into decades of service, fueled by prayer and the unwavering belief that the Gospel changes everything.

Today, their vision remains the same: to see churches centered on Christ rise across the Navajo Nation. Ken and Debbie continue to press forward, excited for all that God will yet accomplish through the power of the Gospel.

People

The Navajo Nation, known as Diné Bikéyah (“Land of the People”), is the largest Native American reservation in the United States, spanning portions of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. The Navajo, or Diné, are a people with a rich heritage, deep traditions, and a strong sense of identity that has endured through generations.

Central to Navajo life are the values of family, respect, and harmony with the world around them. Their language, Diné Bizaad, remains a cornerstone of their culture and was once a vital tool in protecting freedom when the Navajo Code Talkers used it during World War II. Storytelling, weaving, silversmithing, and ceremonies continue to be meaningful expressions of their history and worldview.

For missionaries, the beauty of Navajo culture also presents a unique mission field. The Navajo people hold to a worldview that emphasizes balance and spiritual harmony, which creates natural bridges for sharing the truth of Christ—the One who brings perfect peace and reconciliation with God. By honoring their traditions and building genuine relationships, the Gospel can be shared in ways that connect deeply with their hearts and lives.

Although many Navajo communities face challenges such as economic hardship and spiritual need, they are a people of strength, resilience, and hope.

For Ken and Debbie Norris, serving among the Navajo means more than just preaching—it means living alongside them, respecting their heritage, and pointing them to the eternal hope that can only be found in Jesus Christ.
